Truck accident claims lives of 3 children in South Carolina

Four people are dead after a horrific two-vehicle crash along I-95 last month. The crash happened early morning, at approximately 4 a.m. in Colleton County, South Carolina. According to police, a vehicle carrying three children was hit by a semi truck while both vehicles were driving at high rates of speed along the interstate.

The tractor-trailer hit the car from behind. The force of the collision crushed the car and trapped the driver and the passengers in the vehicle. The collision also caused the car to lose control and go off the roadway into the woods.

Three children and one adult had been riding in the backseat of the car. All of them were pronounced dead at the accident site. Meanwhile, a passenger and the 27-year-old female driver of the car were rushed to a local hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the vehicle is the only victim whose name has been released at this time.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, they are still investigating how the collision may have occurred. At this time, no information has been released with regard to the crash, how it might have happened, and which driver may have been at fault.

Often when a South Carolina semi truck accident involves a tractor-trailer rear-ending another vehicle, the fault will be assigned to the truck driver. Unfortunately, these kinds of accidents between semitrucks and motor vehicles frequently involve catastrophic injuries and death. Those who survive such accidents with serious injuries may want to investigate whether they can pursue a personal injury action against the at-fault parties for financial compensation. Family members of those who are killed in these accidents may also want to investigate the pursue of wrongful death claims.
